Do you have a passion for improving public spaces and leading teams to deliver exceptional services for communities? Gosport Borough Council is seeking an experienced Public Spaces Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day delivery and strategic development of our parks, play areas, sports facilities, countryside, allotments, cemeteries, and more.

About the Role

This is a role for an experienced public space manager/professional to continue to deliver the high service standards and value for money Gosport's residents expect. Reporting to the Head of Public Spaces, you will manage and develop the Council’s in-house operational grounds maintenance, cemeteries, allotments, countryside, recreation grounds, playgrounds and our award-winning parks and open spaces.

You’ll be a key player in shaping the future of Gosport’s public spaces ensuring they are well-maintained, inclusive and sustainable.

You will oversee operations, manage budgets, ensure legal compliance, and promote community partnerships. The role also involves supporting corporate initiatives and deputising for the Head of Public Spaces when required.

What we’re looking for

We're looking for a dynamic and strategic leader with:

  • Significant experience in managing grounds maintenance and/or horticultural services, ideally in a local government setting.
  • Knowledge of nature conservation, heritage sites, and public open space management.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate teams and work collaboratively with stakeholders.
  • A customer-focused, solution-oriented mind-set and the ability to manage complex operations calmly and effectively.
  • Experience handling budgets, procurement, and performance monitoring.
  • A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.

Why Join Us?

Gosport is a vibrant coastal community with a rich natural and historical environment. At Gosport Borough Council, you’ll be part of a committed team that values innovation, sustainability, and excellence in service delivery. This is your opportunity to make a lasting impact on the quality of life for our residents and visitors.

In return for your hard work and contribution, we can offer you a competitive salary, generous annual leave, flexi time, leisure centre discounts, membership of the Local Government Pension scheme and more. Full details of the role are outlined in the attached Job Description.
