This is a 2-month contract position with a local authority, aimed at providing high-quality committee and governance support to the Council, Cabinet, Overview and Scrutiny Committees, Regulatory Committees, and other associated bodies, including those operating at armâs length (e.g., Education Appeal Panels). The role is crucial for ensuring efficient democratic processes by organizing meetings, managing agenda workflows, and delivering accurate administrative and procedural support.
Responsibilities
Organize, coordinate, and attend committee meetings (both in-person and virtual).
Prepare and distribute agendas, minutes, action logs, and formal decision notices promptly.
Develop, implement, and manage Agenda Management Plans for assigned committees and bodies.
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely submission of reports and agenda items.
Project manage the end-to-end agenda planning process to ensure efficient meeting delivery.
Conduct research and prepare reports to support committee and council decision-making.
Provide administrative support for quasi-judicial processes, including Appeals, Exclusion Reviews, and Licensing Panels.
Essential Experience Required
Experience in a committee, governance, or administrative support role (ideally within local government or public sector).
Proven experience in organizing meetings and managing complex schedules and documentation.
Experience preparing formal minutes, reports, and agendas.
Essential Qualifications Required
Educated to A-level standard or equivalent (essential).
Relevant qualification in business administration, public administration, or governance (desirable).
Evidence of continuous professional development in governance or committee services (desirable).
Additional Information
Working hours: 37 hours per week.
Location: Civic Campus, Euclid Street, Swindon, SN1 2JG, United Kingdom.
Work pattern: The postholder can work remotely but will be expected at the Civic Offices when public Committee meetings are taking place.
